The Soul of Lugana and the Heart of Valpolicella
Since 1960, the Peschiera del Garda winery has been investing in indigenous grape varieties with respect and enrichment of the local land.
The 95 hectares of vineyards in the most suitable areas of Lugana and the classic zone of Valpolicella represent two faces: one white and the other one red. They both epitomise top quality wines that are born from the deep connection with the local terroir and its history, respect of time and family traditions that have been giving value to the local varieties for over 50 years.
These are the characteristics of the Zenato winery that is located in Peschiera del Garda, about 25 km west of Verona on the Venetian shore of the lake Garda. It is in the landscape refined by the moraine hills and a mild climate, where the founder Sergio Zenato has been building the reputation of the autochthonous grape variety since 1960. By having faith and investing in the potential of Trebbiano di Lugana, he transformed it into a great white, the Lugana. The finest grapes, harvested from the historic vineyards of Podere Massoni located in S. Cristina, have given life to such notable wine labels as Lugana S. Cristina and Lugana Riserva Sergio Zenato, that have received numerous international awards.
Later Zenato has extended its horizons and interests to the Valpolicella area – a chain of hills and valleys of Quaternary origin. Here, in the Costalunga estate, the company owns 35 hectares of land 300 meters above the sea level, which accommodate Corvina, Rondinella and Oseleta – the main varieties that create Amarone – the wine of great tradition and reputation. The company also successfully produces Ripassa – a Valpolicella Ripasso DOC Superiore, born from the best selection of the grapes that are passed over the Amarone pomace, which in 2016 celebrated its first 20 years.
Today Zenato is represented by Sergio’s family: his wife Carla and their children Alberto and Nadia, who have successfully developed and expanded the family project. Alberto looks after the product, following the process from the vineyard to the bottle and the market, whereas Nadia dedicates her attention to development strategies and marketing communication.Average response time: Less than 24 hrs
